Simonsen’s big hit inside top of the second inning sent Brewerton from first to third base and Kihlgast managed to drag them both home with a long outfield hit. Kim Hansen made almost no mistakes pitching and Belgium players had trouble with getting on bases.

On the other side, the Danish were on fire and scored again in the third inning. At first, Simonsen’s homerun RBI triple increased on 5-nothing. Then another single homerun by A. Hansen made it 6 and forced Belgium to change pitchers. Cnops was substituted by van Aarssen.

The Danish offense resulted in three more runs in the fifth inning. Fernandez was out with his long hit, but one of his teammates managed to get back home from the third base. The same situation repeated as Brewerton ran home and der Groote’s error made it 9:0.

Kim Hansen kept clean sheet and finished the whole game afterwards in the bottom of fifth inning.

Post-game comments

Stefan Thilemans (Belgium): We had a too big respect towards our opponents and we were afraid to play in the beginning. We didn´t catch the pace as well as the Danish, who had some hits and gained more confidence. However, there were some positive aspects also. We have a young team, which is still learning. We´ll try to do our best in the Tuesday game against the Czech Republic.

Jens Terkelsen (Denmark): This game was much better from our point of view than the morning one in Havlickuv Brod. We did well at bat as well as in defense. We can be definitely satisfied with this performance. Those two homeruns at one time were really important and maybe even decisive.
