Netherlands
Another one of the top contenders for the title of European Champions, Team Holland, will be travelling to Havlíčkův Brod wishing to equal, or yet better to improve upon their result from the tournament held two years ago in Amstelveen, where they reached the final game in which they lost to the Czech Republic. Holland is one of the top European countries as regards baseball and softball (Dutch women’s team won the European Championship in Prague last year in overpowering fashion). Even though men’s softball in Holland seems to have run out of steam somewhat, they still count among the top national teams on the Old Continent.
The Dutch put up a very good performance at the championship they hosted two years ago. Despite falling to the Czechs, the Danish and the British at the start of the tournament, they stepped up in the play-off stage and made their way to the gold medal game, in which they got pummeled by the Czechs and lost 9-2. Three Dutch players have seen softball action in the Czech Extraliga this year.
